Likewise, the flights from Greenland to Copenhagen will depart late evening Greenland time on Thursdays and arrive early morning at 06:30 in Copenhagen. In addition, Air Greenland has entered an agreement with SAS making it possible for passengers to check in the luggage for the entire journey and avoiding customs clearance at Copenhagen Airport.
Another time saver is that boarding passes can be issued for the entire journey to the final destination in Greenland. Flight time from Copenhagen is just 4,5 hours.
Experience something new this year, discover the brief and magical Arctic Summer: Greenland Travel is the expert when it comes to experiencing the adventures on their island. They take care of all practical matters and their knowledgeable guide teams look after you well. It is up to you choose your right combination of physical adventure and relaxation.
Tours begin on Thursdays to tie in with the new convenient flight times from Copenhagen. Here are just a couple of examples of tours they offer:
Summer holiday in Kangerlussuaq, Sisimiut and Ilulissat
Kangerlussuaq, just a few kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, is the only place from where you can drive by Jeep right to one of the wonders of the world - the awe-inspiring Inland Icecap. The drive takes you through some unparalleled landscape where thousands of wild reindeers and musk oxen roam and on this journey you get very close to these animals.
This tour takes in three classical towns and the next stop is at Sisimiut which is the second largest city in West Greenland. With open water during winter it is a centre for the fishing industry. This area offers great bird life and interesting wild flowers and has a permanent exhibition on show of 1,200 rocks and minerals.
Ilulissat, the Greenlandic word for ‘icebergs‘, is the final destination of the tour. It is beautifully located at the mouth of the 40-kilometer long ice fjord filled with enormous icebergs produced by the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. Its unique natural beauty is truly recognised and since 2004 it is placed on the Unesco’s World Heritage List. 5000 people and 6000 working sledge-dogs live in this town and there are plenty of dog sledging tours to different settlements to choose from.
Yet more unique experiences await you.
Venture out by boat into the ice fjord and the old settlement of Sermeriut or combine a boat trip with a 5-hour hike. Marvel at the scintillating lights and colours over the many icebergs floating in the Disko Bay and from 25 May to 25 July you can experience the added magic of the midnight sun. From now until the end of September the days are longer in Greenland than the rest of Europe, so why not take advantage of that?
Do something different this year - discover Greenland.
