Helsingør (Elsinore) is situated at the entrance to Oresund and it is a traffic centre with ferries to Sweden. However, the town is first and foremost home to
Kronborg Castle, the stage for Shakespeare's play Hamlet. Furthermore, there are many old half-timbered houses, cosy cobbled streets, a cathedral and a peaceful monastery in the busy town.
The town of Fredensborg is home to the royal family's spring and autumn residence, Fredensborg Castle. The large castle park has many paths and offers great views of Esrum Lake.

The symbol of Hillerød is the large Frederiksborg Castle, home to the Danish Natural History Museum which among other things houses a portrait gallery. The castle was a royal castle for many years and it has easy access to the large hunting forests surrounding Hillerød town.
On North Sealand's coast there is a plethora of beach towns, e.g.
Hornbæk,
Gilleleje, Rågeleje, Tisvilde and
Liseleje. Several of them used to be small fishing villages, e.g. Hornbæk, which is today viewed as the most exclusive of all the beach towns, whereas Gilleleje still has a functioning fishing harbour. From here and in many other coastal towns along Oresund and Kattegat, the fishermen helped many Danish Jews to safety in Sweden during WW II. However, in Gilleleje it went wrong in October 1943 when 75 Jews who were hidden at the church's attic were informed on and captured. You can get more information about this at
Gilleleje Museum.
In
Hundested, the small fishing village has developed into a busy fishing harbour. At Skansen above the city, is the polar explorer Knud Rasmussen's house, and north of Hundested, you find Kikhavn which is one of the region's oldest fishing villages. Today, the fishing village with the many thatched houses is listed.
Between Roskilde Fjord and Arresø lake is the old industrial town
Frederiksværk where a canon foundry and a gun powder factory form part of the
Frederiksværk Industrial Museum.
Frederikssund faces the fjord and is home to the painter
J. F. Willumsen's Museum. At a headland in the fjord, you can experience ferocious Viking plays during the summer months as well as visit a Viking village.
