
In the region you found the cathedral city of
Roskilde. The
Roskilde cathedral is the resting home of a large number of Danish royals and at the
Viking Ship Museum you can experience five 1000 year old Viking ships which were found in Roskilde Fjord.
In
Nykøbing S, which is Odsherred's main town, you find a cosy market town environment and a number of galleries exhibiting art and handicraft products.
Rørvig is a popular holiday town and the ferry to Hundested embarks from the small harbour. On Sealand's Point is Røgeriet (The Smokehouse) in Havneby town designed by none less than the world famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen.
Slagelse and the fjord town
Holbæk are busy market towns and the old ferry town of Korsør experiences a redevelopment of the harbour front after the Great Belt Bridge has replaced the ferries.
Kalundborg is still a harbour town with ferries to Århus and the island of Samsø, and the old five towered church Vor Frue is the symbol of the town.
In
Ringsted, you can feel the presence of history at
Sct. Bendt's Church with the many royal graves from medieval times, the same applies to Sorø where the beautiful abbey church has many noble graves - among others is Copenhagen's founder bishop Absalon buried there. Next to the church is
Sorø Academy right next to Sorø Lake and the Academy Garden with nice paths along the lake.
The market town
Skælskør is situated between fjord and cove and in the surrounding area you can see the manor hourses of Borreby and Holsteinborg – Denmark's famous fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen often visited the latter.
