|
It is always a good idea to join a sightseeing tour when you first arrive in a new city, and it is a great idea to join one of the more unusual trips if you already know the city and want to explore it further or have special requests as to what you want to see. Here are some suggestions – read more about times, duration of the tours, prices and which languages are offered by clicking on the links provided.
Copenhagen has a pleasantly accessible size and one of the very best ways to experience the city is on foot. You can do that with Copenhagen Walking Tours (www.copenhagen-walkingtours.dk) who are specialised in a selection of themed tours. The guides take you through town, behind the facade and into the backyards and tell you about the history, architecture, arts and famous people of Copenhagen. History Tours the guides use a specific period in the city's history as a starting point and tell you about life in the city, about the rich and not so well-off people and areas that shaped Copenhagen at that exact period in time.
Both Copenhagen Tours and City Safari offer guided bike tours. This is a fun and active way to experience the life and buildings of the city, and you can choose from a variety of tours. Copenhagen Tours offers scheduled daily tours as well as custom designed tours. City Safari offers a selection of different themed tours, for example The Historic Copenhagen, Danish Design Safari, The Big Architecture Ride and Ecology in the City. By choosing a cycle taxi or rickshaw, you get around the city in a relaxed and laid-back manner while somebody else does the hard work for you. The driver knows the ins and outs of the city and can tell about the things you pass on the way. The two main operators are Flying Tigers Rickshaws and Copenhagen Rickshaws. They will take you wherever you want to go, but also offer scheduled, custom-made, and shuttle tours. You can either flag down a cycle taxi on the street or book in advance.
Join the night watchmen who in the old days maintained law and order and lit up and put out the city's street lamps. They tell about houses and places of interest in the old Latin Quarters and about the people that lived there back in the days. You will probably also be treated to a verse or two from the old watchmen songs.
When dusk falls on Copenhagen, Ghosttours' guides – caped and carrying lamps – lead you around the more gloomy parts of the inner city which are haunted by ghosts and witches. Maybe you also sense something… at least a nice thrill!
Embark one of the yellow waterbusses crossing up and down along Copenhagen's water front. They provide a great way to experience the city from the water and on your own. With a day ticket, you can get on and off as you want, take in the experiences on land and enjoy the view from the water to the harbour front which has a mixture of old and new exciting architecture.
Experience the colourful life of Christiania with one of the Freetown's guides. You will hear the story of the 25-year-old society, explore the different parts of the neighbourhood and get a peek into the workshops that among other things produce the famous Christiania bikes. You are also welcome to explore on your own and take in the laid-back way of life in the Freetown.

Because here, a guide is available to take you on a guided jogging tour providing you with the chance to really take in the pulse and variety of life of the city. The length and pace of the tours are arranged, so that everybody can keep up.
